The Antigua weather forecast matters quite a bit for anyone wanting to visit the island's 365 beaches -- one for every day of the year.
Antigua's average temperature is predictably warm almost year-round, but the same can't be said for the rainfall.
Temperatures
Statistics from the World Weather Organization show that the island has an average high monthly temperature of 85 degrees Fahrenheit and an average low of 75 degrees.
The warmest months of the year are June through October when the average highs are about 87 degrees. In contrast, the average highs are 83 degrees in December, January and February.
The average low temperatures -- mostly at night -- range from about 72 degrees Fahrenheit in January through March to 77 degrees from June through September.
These consistent temperatures make Antigua a popular place to visit even during the winter.
Rainfall
The average monthly rain is 3.6 inches a month, but it varies greatly throughout the year -- enough to have an impact on the best months to vacation there.
Rainfall hits a peak of 5.5 inches in September and nearly as much in October and November. Rain gets heavier these months because of the annual hurricane season that hits the Caribbean from June through November. The island also has a modest rainy season in May.
The lowest monthly rainfall of the year is February with 1.5 inches. Other months with a similar amount of light rainfall are January, March and April.
The number of days each month with rain -- otherwise known as rain days -- average about eight days each in February March and April. They average 13 days in August, October, November and December.
Best Months to Go
Popular months to visit Antigua are often the same as the months with the lightest rainfall. The favorite months to travel there are March and April, the Caribbean Tourism Organization says. September and October are the least favorite.
A combination of warm temperatures and light rainfall make February through April along with June the least risky months to vacation in Antigua. Likewise, August through November along with May have the highest risk of rain.
Anyone looking for lower prices but also willing to take on some risk can consider visiting the island during the fall. In that case, travel insurance is worth considering.
Travel insurance will compensate for the possible cost of a ruined vacation, but it won't compensate for the time and effort of getting there, not to mention the disappointment.
