Mention the Bahamas to people, and they might think right away about sunshine, beaches and great weather.
But the Bahamas climate is not always cut out for warm vacations and coming home again with great suntans.
Although the Bahamas are often lumped in with the Caribbean, in reality the islands are located north of the true Caribbean and southeast of the Florida coast.

The winter months are so cool that water temperatures aren't comfortable enough for swimming and beaches are usually too cool for sunning.
Instead, plan to use the winter months in the Bahamas for other activities such as shopping in Nassau's large tourism district, taking advantage of the islands' numerous golf courses or trying many of the other land-based activities.
High temperatures in the Bahamas hover in the mid- to upper-80s Fahrenheit from May through October.
Rainfall hits high points in June and August and low points during the winter.
